First Grade is a tremendous year for growth socially, emotionally and academically. We provide a caring, Christ-centered environment where all children can blossom and grow!
Curriculum
Religion
We take a walk through the Bible to learn about Jesus and all of the wonderful things He did in his life. We enjoy activities with our 5th grade prayer partners. We attend Mass every week!
English & Language Arts
The Lucy Calkins curriculum is utilized in first grade. We teach mini lessons while supporting students reading at their individualized level. Journals, personal narratives, non-fiction and opinion reports are a few of the writing projects in the first grade.
Mathematics
Lots of hands-on work continues in first grade to develop fluency in addition and subtraction and a strong number sense. We also learn about data, two and three dimensional shapes, time and money!
Science
We continue to learn and care for all of God’s creation. We learn about sound, light, sun, moon and stars, and animals.
Social Studies
We develop respect for all cultures, learn about the symbols of the U.S., distinguish between producers and consumers of goods/services and how/why people earn money.
