Preschool Director/Teacher

IHM is seeking a faith-filled Preschool Director/Teacher beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

Job Description

We are prayerfully seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable leader for our preschool program. We have expanded our offerings to include enrichment opportunities for our youngest students during the traditional school day. These programs need an over-arching director to ensure continuity and consistency. The preschool director/teacher will plan and organize for our three-year-old, four-year-old, and young 5’s students both in their preschool classrooms and those who choose enrichment schedules cooperatively with other preschool teachers and aides. The director is also responsible for maintaining licensing requirements and other administrative tasks as directed by the principal. Most importantly, the director/teacher will work to create and maintain a Catholic, child-centered, safe and loving environment for our young disciples. This position follows the regular school schedule and calendar.

General duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching one section of 4-year-old preschool.
  • Plan and staff all enrichment programs for 3’s, 4’s and Young 5’s for when they are not in their regular preschool classroom.
  • Engage children in developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Provide individual, small group, and whole group instruction.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with coworkers.
  • Ensure licensing procedures are followed and up to date.
  • Maintain strong business practices in order to operate a profitable Preschool and Childcare program.
  • Assist in marketing, enrollment and communication regarding preschool programs.
  • Help build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in and plan school religious and service activities.
  • At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information, display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.

Required knowledge/skills:

  • Practicing Catholic living in accordance with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church
  • Ability to form caring relationships with students and families and strengthen the partnership between home and school
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Expert in multitasking and problem solving
  • Desire to continuously grow in professional skill and knowledge


  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate
  • Early childhood endorsement preferred
  • Certified or willing to be certified as a preschool director through the state of Michigan
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development or childcare administration as well as experience working with children.
  • An ability to work on and be a contributor to a highly professional team of teachers
  • Virtus trained or willing to be Virtus trained prior to start date.

Substitute Teachers

IHM is looking to expand its substitute teacher list. If you have teaching experience, please consider applying to be added to our sub roster. The following are characteristics of an ideal candidate:

  • Teaching experience
  • Ability to provide backup teaching services when full-time teachers are unable to work
  • Ability to execute lesson plans left by the absent teacher
  • Ability to create and maintain a respectful and fair classroom culture that fosters safe and productive learning
  • Virtus trained
